What makes Music Together® different? Research. Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987 and pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum. Today classes are offered all over the world including a lab school in Princeton, New Jersey. Ongoing research at the lab school, as well as the research of others, continually informs Music Together’s work on program content and development, varied applications of the program, and teacher training. Everything we do in class has an educational purpose. Just ask one of our highly trained teachers.
In class, sing, dance, play with instruments, and have fun! You might be surprised to hear that you are your child's most important music teacher right now—and it doesn't matter whether you think of yourself a great singer or dancer. Young children develop dispositions for certain behaviors, including learning to love music, by observing and imitating their loved ones. Simply by participating enthusiastically during class and playing with the ideas at home, you'll give your children the modeling they need to learn to love to make music.
What's expected of my child in class? At Music Together, children are never required to sit in the circle or expected to conform to an adult's idea of participation. We know that children learn differently from adults. They learn instinctively and constantly, through observation, interactions with adults and older children, and through imitation, play, and, especially, movement. One hallmark of Music Together is the insight that children will naturally develop music ability simply when they are immersed in a community of families all making music.
Children's responses depend on their most dominant learning style and temperament as well as their age and developmental level. Some might follow the teacher right away. Many will simply want to watch and absorb, particularly in the first few weeks of class. Some might crawl or toddle around; others are stimulated by the music and respond more actively, running, jumping, or dancing. All are perfectly natural responses to the new, musically rich environment. Throughout the semester, your teacher will help you tune in to how your child learns best so you can support their music development in class and at home. Feel free to ask if you have questions!

What is the class size? Each class has between 6 and 12 registered children, plus their caregiver(s).
What are your safety policies and procedures? We care about your family's safety! Click here to see our current Class Policies.
What kinds of programs do you offer? We have several different offerings for children of varying ages, from birth through eight years: Babies (under 7 months); Mixed Ages (birth - 5yrs); Rhythm Kids (4 - 8 yrs). Our Babies and Mixed Age classes involve the parents or caregivers participation. Rhythm Kids classes are parent-optional but we love it when parents stay and join in!
What is the tuition? Tuition varies for different programs and semesters (due to length). View our Tuition information page.
What is the refund policy? For new families, there is a one time $10 fee that is non-refundable. We can send you a tuition refund if necessary as long as classes have not begun yet. No tuition refunds are given after classes begin, although credit toward future classes may be issued in exceptional circumstances.
What is the make-up policy? Make-up classes are allowed for each child, but must be scheduled with us in advance and taken during the current semester. Make-ups are not guaranteed and are allowed only in classes where space is available. Make-ups cannot be carried forward to future semesters.
How do I schedule a make-up? Current families can schedule make-ups right here on our website. Choose ‘Enrolled Families’ from the menu and choose "Schedule a makeup" from the drop down menu. You can schedule makeups by day, location, teacher, etc. Once you've scheduled your makeup you will receive a confirmation email.
How long are the classes? All in-person classes are 45 minutes long and meet once a week.
How long are the semesters? We offer 10-week fall, winter, and spring semesters, and a 6 or 7-week summer session. We also typically do "Jingle Jams" in December, which are stand-alone Music Together style classes with a holiday flair.
Can I switch classes mid-semester? Consistency is important for your child’s learning, so we ask that you try to settle into your class in the first few weeks of the semester as the integral musical community is beginning to form between families and your teacher. However, we understand that especially with young children, schedules change and nap times shift, etc. Therefore, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule and find a class that works for you and your child subject to availability. Contact us via phone or email to discuss your situation.
What happens after we complete a semester? Time to sign up for another! A different song collection is used each semester –there are nine different song collections- so when you re-register, you can look forward to expanding your repertoire with a variety of new songs and chants. The curriculum is designed so that families can continue classes for three years before revisiting a song collection. In three years, you and your child will learn over 375 songs! If you do continue in the program beyond three years (and we hope you will), your child will experience his or her first song collections in a brand new way.
Can I bring a guest or an unregistered older sibling to class? Extra adult family members are always welcomed, and encouraged to participate! Sometimes an older sibling (or unregistered sibling) needs to attend class with you. No problem! Our policy is that unregistered siblings may attend one class per session for free with advanced notice. A second visit is our drop in price of $20. Contact the office to make arrangements.
I lost my CD or songbook. Can I order another one? Currently enrolled families in a Music Together class or preschool program may order replacement or extra copies of song collection CDs or songbooks by emailing [email protected] or by calling (800) 728-2692 x300
Can I buy a gift certificate? Yes! You can buy one here on the website by visiting our online Store, or call our office to order over the phone.
